Painter, sculptor, printmaker and draughtsman Paladino was born in Paduli, near Benevento, one of the most important towns of Southern Italy (it was once located on the Via Appia, on the way to Brindisi) in 1948. The area was an early centre of Christianity, but remained, up until the 4th Century AD, at the heart of secretive Egyptian and Greco-Roman cults – all of which emerge in Paladino’s work.

The area was an early centre of Christianity, but remained, up until the 4th Century AD, at the heart of secretive Egyptian and Greco-Roman cults – all of which emerge in Paladino’s work. His paintings, sculptures and large-scale installations channel signals from a vaguely remembered past and confront recent and distant history through a very personal interpretation of the poetics of classical antiquity and Pagan mythologies. Recurring elements of Primitive Art, Florentine 14th century frescoes, Gothic sculpture and Byzantine mosaics also inform Paladino’s imagery, functioning as relics of forlorn civilizations and indicating the artist’s commitment to invent a new pictorial language that re-connects with narrative and symbolic visual expressions.
