Dutch painter and theorist best known for his involvement in the De Stijl movement and his creation of Neo-Plasticism, a form of non-representational geometric abstraction inspired by Theosophy (a form of religious mysticism based on Buddhist and Brahmin teachings) and Cubism. Mondrian’s paintings have become icons of twentieth century abstraction.
