Michael Gadlin - Project Space Exhibition

K ContemporaryNorth America

For the month of August, K Contemporary is proud to present Michael Gadlin's most recent body of non-objective paintings. From the artist: "There’s no language for what’s in my heart and my soul until I paint. For me it’s about letting go. Letting go, as a means to find deeper meaning and purpose. The more I let go, the closer I get to the truth. Like a child discovering the sandbox for the first time, I begin this work by seeking an ingenuousness that felt open to all possibilities as an unexplored pursuit. A way to discover new marks and relationships. Holding only a nonobjective agenda, and choosing tools that were anomalous for the process of laying down paint. Finding a more primitive and exhaustive method to express that, which I cannot put into words. Arriving at content that feels new. Piecing together forms that seem to have long coexisted. Like playing-as-you-go, shapes and forms begin to collide and make interactions that feel undeniably ostentatious. Enticing viewers with a visual story of my process. I went out of the way to either use tools that I found or made. I wanted the tools to provide a bit of a struggle. I needed to feel the tension against my push of the paint onto the surface. Only to have created marks that translate less predictably and make for an interaction of harmonies." Michael Gadlin
